My mother-in-law often brings sewing projects with her when she visits friends or comes to our house for dinner. So when I saw the
Quilted Garden Tote on
Sew, Mama, Sew I knew that I needed to make it for her. But not for gardening, for sewing projects!

I used some of my hoarded reproduction print fat quarters for the patchwork and some canvas I've had in my stash for a while. I quilted the outer pieces to some scrap fleece - I chickened out and did a little wavy pattern with my walking foot instead of trying free motion quilting again.

I'm loving the little fussy cut westie pocket. I knew when I picked up that westie print at the
Quilt Market that I would find a special use for it!

Mother's Day Gifts one twoComments will be closing on the May Day Giveaway tonight at midnight, CST. Don't miss your chance to enter!Labels: bags, quilting, sewing

The quilt in our guest room is one I bought at Target when we first moved into our house. It was cheap, and I liked the colors, but I am definitely not attached to it! This morning I pulled out these fabrics to start a new quilt. I think I'm going to use
Dana's
quilt along to do this quilt - assuming I make progress on the other two unfinished quilts I have going right now!
One more day to enter the May Day Giveaway! Good luck!Labels: fabric, wip

After a week off from crafting I finally finished quilting the outsides of the Sew Mama Sew tote. I'm really happy with how it came out. I guess I needed a little time away from the sewing machine but it feels good to be back at it!

I'm using the blocks from
AmandaJean's
quilt along to do two baby quilts - conveniently, this means I only need 40 9-patches instead of 70 (20 for each baby quilt). I finished up the first set of 20 over the weekend.

I wasn't too thrilled with these blocks at first but laying them out on the white background really helped them grow on me. I see a couple I need to rearrange, but I think when I get it all put together it will look pretty good! What do you think?

After a couple years off from growing veggies we loaded up our raised beds again this year. Zuchinni, cucumbers, pear tomatoes, grape tomatoes, basil, cilantro, and jalapenos. Everything is growing so well! I can't wait for those little tomatoes to be mature enough to pop into a salad. I'd better add fresh mozarella to the grocery list!

Administrative Note: Due to a few questions, I have added a "terms of use" clarification to my
Pleated Purse Pattern. If there is enough interest, I will clean up this pattern and sell it as a pattern/license that will then be available for home sewists to use for their shops (no mass production, please). My reasoning for this is summed up very well by Rae
here. Please comment or email me if you would be interested!

I have only done a few of my 9 patches, shame on me. I am supposed to be up to 17 or 18, I've lost track. I have lots of little squares cut but have not been sitting at the machine to get them sewn.

I also haven't been working on my 2nd mother's day gift. My mother-in-law was out of town last weekend so I got a bit of a reprieve on her gift but need to get to work. This will eventually be a
garden tote, with a twist.

And the
wedding quilt is not basted. I'm so far behind! I'd better get back to it...

I am in love with these simple baby blankies. I can use up and show off some of my favorite fabrics. With fleece on the back and a satin edge, they are easy to love! I just use a yard of fabric so the blankie is ~36" x 44" - perfect for a playmat or crib. These are made especially for a family friend - the pink is a gift to her daughter and the blue is a commission for a soon to arrive baby boy. They're already on their way, Holly!

For Mother's Day I made my mom these sweet embroidered towels. I can't pass up a chance to make a handmade gift!

Her "main" present is dinner and a movie - tickets are already purchased for Star Trek this afternoon, I can't wait.

The pattern for the towels came from
doe-c-doe who often posts free vintage embroidery patterns.

These are slightly modified to keep the towels simple. I know she'll love them!

A tiny folded box...

Filled to the brim...

With a new necklace!

It just barely fit. Loving this necklace! I need to make some more that I keep - this one is already in the mail to its new home.

I guess the quilted pillows won't get crossed off my
Spring to Finish list... I did practice a little more free motion quilting last night - including some
glittergoods loops - but I gave up quickly. The tension problems were not an issue like last time, but I just couldn't get the feel for moving the fabric under the needle, keeping a consistent stitch length, keeping jagged turns out of my loops... It was frustrating because I'm used to being able to figure things out quickly on my own. What, you mean two hours of free motion quilting does not an expert make? Who knew! I'm not giving up, but I think I'll have a couple more straight-line quilted blankets before I try this full scale.
