I was reminded fairly last-minute that the annual
church auction was this past Sunday.
Now you see where those scraps yesterday came from!I had planned on crossing off a
Spring to Finish goal by finishing my
Flutterby Quilt Sunday but I worked on my auction contribution instead.

I also donated the
pleated bag I made when I was working out the pattern. They both did quite well!

Just in case my to-do list wasn't long enough, I joined
AmandaJean's 9-patch
quilt along. How fun!

One other new thing - if you've made something from one of my tutorials, could you add it to the new
flickr group? I'd love to see what you've all made in one place!

Thanks for all the interest in the little
pleated pouch I made for Miya! A lot of you asked for a tutorial, but it's really constructed just like my
organizer pouch with just a slight change to the outer fabric:
- Instead of upholstery weight fabric for the outer pieces, I used cotton and didn't interface it or anything.
- Cut the lining fabric and interfacing to 11.5"x7" still but cut the outer fabric 12"x7" (you can make the top edge wider if you want deeper pleats, but keep the bottom edge 12" - it will be a trapezoid).
- Do the pockets/lining/strap same as in the original tutorial.
- Before installing the zipper -->
Mark your 12x7" outer piece at the center and 3" in from either side.
Fold from left to right at each mark, pinch a scant 1/4" and fold back from right to left.
Pin and move on to assembling the pouch.
- Install the zipper. Trim the lining as shown in the original tutorial but don't trim the outer fabric. Finish assembly as usual, adding the strap, including the mitred corners, turning right side out, etc.
Hopefully that's enough detail! Let me know if you have any questions.

I think I'm about 30 minutes away from finishing this quilt top. Too bad I don't have that 30 minutes right now!
Relay for Life is tomorrow night and as the team captains, Pete and I have been working hard to get everything ready. Plus we had friends over tonight. And today is Pete's birthday! Lots of fun things that trump time in my sewing room. So the quilt will have to wait another day or two...

The remaining baby blankies are done! I'm especially fond of the blue and green one - I used up some Amy Butler half yards for that one and it actually felt really good. They've been in my stash for ages but I love knowing they're going to a good home and no longer just sitting on my shelf!

Well, we survived the flood yesterday, though when we finally ventured out we saw plenty of stranded cars, stuck even after the water receded. I heard we got 6" of rain in about an hour! While the storm raged, I finished putting together the sweet
little elephant for my cousin's new baby.

This is a cousin on Pete's side of the family, and she named her little boy Charlie just like my nephew! David is a family name, the baby's grandfather, Pete's uncle.

It's a little more identical to
Corinne's than I had planned, but I love it. I hope little Charlie, and Charlie's mom and dad, like this little embroidery to commemorate his arrival!

Raining, that is.
Water up past the streetlight. The street is flooded so I'm homebound until this rain lets up. Our drainage is pretty good so hopefully things will calm down once this storm passes!
Can you tell in this picture that the cul-de-sac is flooded? Our backyard is really full too but nothing is threatening the house yet. The dog has been running from the front door to the back door barking at the thunder for about two hours. My nerves are a little frayed! I'm trying to make the best of it by getting in some embroidery, a nice activity for a stormy day. Maybe I'll go make some tea...

Hopefully by now
Miya has received her package from me for the
Maker Swap!

I sent her a zipper pouch with a slightly new design (I'm hooked on pleats) and a pair of earrings. I can't believe I've had this Park Slope fabric since last summer without using it! I also filled the pouch with some goodies I hope she'll enjoy. And only 2+ weeks late!

Even though this is way down on my
Spring to Finish goals list, I could no longer resist working on
this quilt a little! Normally I do everything I can to speed up work on a quilt, using chain-piecing, saving a pile to iron at once, etc. But this time I'm really enjoying methodically sewing and pressing each block. I'm loving these fabrics!

Happy Easter everyone! We are relaxing after a wonderful afternoon with family, friends, and tons of food. I am surrounded by gorgeous flowers - a spring bouquet I picked up, Easter lillies from church, and tulips from my mom. I hope you are all having an equally good weekend!

Two baby blankies left before I can cross
#1 off my list!

It is so easy when I'm browsing online to see a new must-have fabric collection and it's on its way to my house before I know it. All the fabric above is the result of compulsive, early 2009 fabric shopping. But between a desire to actually use some of the gorgeous fabric in my stash and a lack of room on my shelves, I have avoided buying fabric online for over two months! The only fabric I've bought in person is this
spring fabric which is specifically for more
pleated purses. It's a small accomplishment, but a step towards keeping my
New Year's resolution!

When I saw this adorable
elephant pattern from
So September I knew I had to get it started for one of the many baby gifts on my list. I'm changing up the color scheme a little and I hope to personalize it with the baby's name and stats when he arrives. So cute!
(And yes, finishing this is now goal #5 on my
Spring to Finish list!)

The other day my neighbor came across the street with her twin 3-year-old daughters, both holding their satin-edged blankies I'd made them when they were born. The blankies are just 44"x36", cotton on one side and flannel on the other with a satin edge (
these - thanks, blog archives). Apparently neither girl will go to bed without them, and if you ask who made them they say Ms. Sarah. It is so cute. And perfect motivation to pull from my stash for blankies for the new babies of a few coworkers!

I can't stop making these tiny samplers. I love them! Instant needlework gratification.

I got my amazing
Maker Swap package from
Miya today! I feel so lucky. And on the day I sent her an email saying I was going to be late with mine... [blush]
